A tornado, a plan, and a call to serve
The creation of the Martin County Amateur Radio Club started with Cory Brassine, Deputy Director of the Martin County Emergency Management Agency and an amateur radio operator. After a tornado struck our county, Cory began developing a plan to bring Martin County ham radio operators together—with a vision of local operators helping with disaster response and field reporting when dependable communication matters most.
Cory set the first meeting in motion by posting a message on the Martin County EMA Facebook page, inviting interested amateur radio operators from across the county to discuss the possibility of creating a club for Martin County.
On January 25, 2024, operators from throughout the county gathered at the Martin County EMA building for the first time. Cory shared his vision, goals, and ideas for a club. After a thoughtful round of discussion, everyone agreed: Martin County should have an amateur radio club.
Before the meeting ended, the group set a date to meet again the following month and begin creating what has now become the Martin County Amateur Radio Club. From there, history began to write itself.
